We want to know what Adult Education means to you so we’re looking for photographs, along with a story, which demonstrates this. Perhaps it’s a photo showing off the work you’ve produced in class, maybe it’s a photo of you celebrating your achievements, or even a photo from an event that has stemmed from you joining one of our adult education courses, whatever your interpretation you’re in with the chance of winning one of 3 prizes!

The competition will run during the Autumn and Winter terms – from 2nd September 2019 – 20th December 2019.

The prize winners will be announced on Friday 24th January 2020 and will receive Aspire Sussex gift vouchers. (A £60 voucher, A £20 voucher and A £20 voucher).

The First prize winner for the £60 voucher will be chosen by the CEO of Aspire Sussex (from a shortlist of 10 chosen by the marketing team) based on their originality, interpretation, visual impact and story of their entry.

A runner up winner, for a £20 voucher, will be chosen by a panel of Aspire Sussex staff from a shortlist of 9 entries after the CEO’s pick.

Another runner up winner, for a £20 voucher, will be determined by the highest number of ‘likes’ combined across Aspire Sussex social channels: Instagram/Twitter/Facebook from a shortlist of 10 entries, posted for 2 weeks from Monday 6th January 2020 until Monday 20th January 2020, after the previous 2 selections have been made. In the event of one or more of the images having the same number of ‘likes’ Aspire Sussex will make the casting vote.

Launching the West Sussex First World War Learning Programme

On 28th June 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed in Versailles, France, officially ending World War 1. To mark the centenary of this momentous occasion, we’re launching our West Sussex First World War Learning Programme, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. It will tell the story of West Sussex and its communities during the First World War, in partnership with Littlehampton Museum, Crawley Museum and The Novium Museum. Local museums like them are a vital part of our communities, celebrating local history, keeping local memories and stories alive for future generations. All three of these museum are also completely free to enter. We are proud to be working with them, combining their local knowledge with our education skills.

Local community is also the main theme in our schedule of free talks.  The programme has plenty of opportunities to commemorate local West Sussex communities and their World War 1 history as well as covering a broad range of topics about the First World War. Revel in the achievements of the Suffragettes during the war with a local Littlehampton historian and author. Consider wartime literature in Burgess Hill. Discover two of the finest houses in Crawley and their reactions to the Great War. Delve into the history of Graylingwell War Hospital in Chichester. It all culminates in our all day Littlehampton event on the 9th July, examining the war-time impact on the local town with four talks by local experts.

If talks are not your thing, don’t worry; we have something for everyone! Our Littlehampton event also offers the chance to sit down and have a cuppa and a chat. The Novium Museum is also putting on a fantastic Family Day, From Trenches to Treaties, also completely free! There is no need to book, just drop in and take part in a range of activities including the chance to get up close and personal with some of the museum’s artefacts. It’s a great time for all ages. We will also be having commemorative poppies created by our students displayed at our Chichester centre from the 10th July. Come and get involved!

The programme runs from 22nd June until 10th July and all events and talks are completely free. See the full programme at www.aspiresussex.org.uk/ww1/. Please note that talks must be booked in advance.

Take Your First Step To Gaining A GCSE

With English and Maths GCSE courses starting in early September, we offer students the opportunity to gain the new Foundation Level GCSE, a qualification from AQA, in just one year. These courses are taught in a friendly and supportive environment, by tutors who are experienced in helping students achieve their learning goal.

These courses are FREE, however, an annual, non-returnable assessment fee of £15 per course per student is charged, for more details please visit https://www.aspiresussex.org.uk/student-support/assessments/

Assessment Sessions

These evening sessions will be held from May for classes starting in September 2019 and will include information about the course and a written test. The Maths test will be without the use of a calculator.

All of these dates have two sessions, the first being 5pm until 7pm and the second being 7.30pm until 9.30pm. Attending an assessment in May will enable time to attend a preparation course if needed.

All our assessments take place at our Adult Education Centre, in the area stated, unless specified otherwise. If you wish to attend any of these assessments, you must first contact your local centre to book a place.

If you can’t attend any of these dates, don’t panic! We will continue to assess individuals throughout the summer, so please contact your local centre as soon as possible and give them your details.
