What is the course about?

By the end of the day the learners will have acquired the skills required to carve a name/numbers into a piece of timber. The learners should leave with the confidence to use these skills on their own.

Who is the course for and what level is it?
The course is for anyone that would like to learn this skill regardless of experience and for those that have done a carving day course before and would like to try something different
What will the course cover?
It will cover
• Drawing/marking out letters and numbers
• Knowledge of tools and materials used
• Carving out letters and numbers
How will I be taught?
The day will be mainly hands on, with the learners practising the skills demonstrated by the tutor. Some time will be spent with tutor discussion, both individually and as a group.

What can I expect to achieve?
The learners will leave with a small sign/plaque that they have created and knowledge of the tools and materials they have used

How will I know I’m progressing?
During the course of the day you be asked to complete an Individual Learning Record (ILR). This will show your progress over the course. The tutor will give individual guidance and feedback on progression throughout the day

What will I need for the first session?
The tutor does have tools and equipment for all, but it would be helpful if you had chisels and a mallet of your own.
The tutor will provide the timber for the practice exercises. The learners will need to bring in a small piece of timber and a printout of letters of appropriate size, to create a sign of their own
