Moving Learning Closer to Home

We have made some significant changes to our new adult learning programme for the 2022/23 academic year. It includes new courses and new locations to support all residents of West Sussex develop new skills, build confidence, and gain knowledge to support them in work or life.

A key focus for us this year, driven by the pandemic and subsequent cost-of-living crisis, has been to ensure we continue to provide accessible and affordable learning for all. To achieve this, we have made the decision to move from having fixed locations for our classrooms, to a more flexible, agile and responsive approach using locations such as community venues and libraries across the region to teach in. As part of this shift in approach, we will be leaving our permanent classroom locations in Crawley, and Marle Place in Burgess Hill at the end of August 2022.

Aspire’s Director of Programmes, Helen Osborne says, ‘During the pandemic, we radically shifted our delivery to continue to support our students by moving our courses online through our dedicated Aspire Cloud teaching platform. As we have returned to include classroom-based teaching in our offer, we are continuing to innovate our service by shifting our classrooms into the community. We work with an extensive and wonderful partner network that enables us to deliver from venues across West Sussex, when and where we are needed.’

She continues, ‘As we now move to deal with the cost-of-living crisis, access to quality education is vital for many to improve their skills and prospects, maintain their social engagement or integrate into their communities. To support our students and ensure courses continue to be inclusive and accessible, we have removed assessment charges, held course fees at 2021 levels for those required to pay, and offer information and guidance on funding for courses.’
