This course will enable you to build on your creative awareness and enjoyment of photography, through creative photographic projects and exploration of camera techniques and functions. You will be supported to engage in experimentation with photography techniques, take pictures in and out of doors using a variety of methods, undertake image analysis and study the work of other photographers. The course will also incorporate learners carrying out their own creative project work. All lessons will have learning aims which the tutor will share with you and they will track how you are progressing throughout the course and keep you informed. The course focuses on a different theme or set of themes each term and that are often inspired by the work of other photographers or photography movements, historical and current. Learners get the chance to develop their technical and creative skills to a higher level through creative projects set and through evaluation and feedback from peers.

The aim of the course is to promote the enjoyment of photography and enhance picture outcomes, improve creativity and enrich enjoyment. You will learn basic camera functions and settings to alter picture outcomes, about composition and presentation and working with digital files.

As a guide, by the end of the course you should be able to:

-Work independently with camera settings to alter picture outcomes and select appropriate shooting modes
-Create images giving consideration to compositional elements and the use of software for basic picture editing
- Enjoy photography in a variety of situations and explore different genres of photography

You will learn about the functions of the mode dial such as Tv Av and P functions, how to focus and expose accurately as well as improving composition.
Some work out of doors may be included and on location (weather permitting) to enrich your photographic learning experience. Please inform the office if this is likely to be a problem for you.

This course is designed to follow on from Take and Create 1. You will learn how to use your camera on manual mode and gain full understanding of the exposure triangle to give you total control of your picture outcomes.
You will learn more about how lenses affect picture outcomes. Having gained confidence with your camera from the first course, this course will focus much more on being creative with your photography. You will be introduced to different genres of photography such as portraiture, andscapes, still life and creative abstract photography and engage with these genres by undertaking fun and creative assignments.

This photography course is for beginners who want to learn about photography and develop it into a creative hobby. It is a continuation from Part 3 and will introduce students to new creative techniques and approaches. Newcomers who have some camera confidence are welcome. This is a photography course focusing on creativity and fun with clear technical guidance. Ideal for DSLR cameras, mirrorless cameras and bridge cameras. This course is NOT suitable for compact or phone cameras. The course focuses on developing skills for improving the control of light, learning how the camera “sees” to make more creative images and learning how to best compose your images.

The course will engage with two major themes and students will be encouraged to develop their own responses to the themes in accordance with their photographic interests. Specific techniques will be taught as fitting for each theme exposing students to a wide range of both technical and creative possibilities. Weekly challenges will also be set for students to ensure there is always something for you to engage with regardless of other commitments, weather or project development. Students will learn which techniques best suit which genres of photography, how to creatively manipulate light, how to use different focal lengths to enhance creative outcomes, and how to apply strong compositional techniques to picture making.

Each lesson will focus on a core technique or theme and each week a challenge will be set to encourage you to explore these in greater depth. You will receive full support to ensure you are confident in undertaking any tasks assigned. There are practical demonstrations and tasks as well as presentations to ensure all students learn in a way that best suits them. This course is a continuation from Part 2 and will introduce students to new creative techniques and approaches. Newcomers are welcome.
This is a photography course focusing on creativity and fun with clear technical guidance. Ideal for DSLR cameras, mirrorless cameras and bridge camera users. Compact camera users are also welcome but please be aware there will be some limits to what you can achieve.

The course focuses on developing skills for improving the control of light, learning how the camera “sees” to make more creative images and learning how to best compose your images.

Returning Students will learn:
How to take control of exposure in manual mode by using different camera metering modes.
How focal lengths affect image outcomes.
How to master the exposure triangle.
About aperture and depth of field.

New Students will learn:
How to control exposure via exposure compensation.
How to control depth of field in aperture mode.
How to control the shutter speed in Tv/S mode.

All Students will:
Develop their compositional skills.
Explore new genres of photography, such as landscape, still life and portraits.
Develop a critical eye and improve their own photography by looking at work by the greats in the field of photography.

There will be two creative assignments set during the course to give you the opportunity to apply your camera skills.
By the end of the course students will have made two online folios of images showing the application of techniques and concepts learned about on the course.

Ideal for photographers who want to pursue new creative outlets, learn from the masters of the medium, and pick up some technical skills along the way. This course is NOT suitable for compact or phone cameras. This course will focus on some more creative processes to make arresting images. Long exposures, ICM and advanced light painting to name a few.
