What is the course about?
Learning for work. This course will prepare you for taking a GCSE examination in English (AQA English 8700) in May/June 2023. You will study a wide range of English techniques and learn how to read texts fluently whilst analysing them critically. You will critically read, analyse and evaluate a wide range of literature and non-fiction texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries as well as other types of writing such as reviews and journalism. You will summarise and synthesise information and ideas from texts and make comparisons between texts. You will use knowledge gained to improve your own writing, which will be expected to be effective and coherent whilst making good and appropriate use of standard English.
What previous experience, knowledge or qualifications do I need for this course?
Students on this course will have been successfully assessed as having the potential to gain the GCSE in one year or will be students who are hoping to improve existing grades.
What do I need to bring with me?
Paper, writing equipment and a folder to organise your notes and work in

You may need to purchase a specific revision guide and reading texts. Your tutor will discuss this with you
What can I do next?
GCSE English is a requirement for progression on to many further and higher education courses. GCSE maths is widely recognised and valued by employers.
