What is the course about?

This course will support you to develop your skills and ability to draw and paint from direct observation. You will explore processes and techniques to enable you to record accurately and use a variety of materials to create graphic and expressive representations of the subject matter. Themes will vary from still-life objects and the human form to abstract approaches using completed studies as the starting point. Your tutor will help you set personal goals for you to aim for and provide regular feedback on how you are doing. All lessons will have learning aims which the tutor will share with you and they will track how you are progressing throughout the course and keep you informed.

What previous experience, knowledge or qualifications do I need for this course?

This course is for all levels and is designed for those looking to develop their creativity in a supportive group environment. Beginners are welcome.

What do I need to bring with me?

Bring along any art materials you already have or would like to learn to use. Your tutor will give you plenty of support and advice as to which materials you might like to explore on the course. A pencil and cartridge paper and eraser.

Are there any additional costs?

Your tutor will signpost you to places where you can purchase art materials that are affordable and/or specific. The basic art materials for both drawing and painting to get you started will cost in the region of £20 in total.

What can I do next?

You may like to enrol on a project-based course that will allow you to develop your own ideas using a range of media, or a medium that you have particularly enjoyed exploring in this class. Or you could start to practise on your own or with friends; submit work for national or local exhibition; join a local art society.
