What is the course about?
The aim of the course is to develop students drawing and painting skills using different media. The course will cover:
Drawing techniques – how to draw a subject using basic shapes and relationship lines.
Adding shading to create depth to drawings.
The colour wheel and how this is especially important when creating realistic shadow colours.
Watercolour and acrylic paint techniques.
Students will have the opportunity to work on their own projects.
What previous experience, knowledge or qualifications do I need for this course?
No previous experience is required, just a desire to develop artistic skills and recognise the merits of the different mediums.
What do I need to bring with me?
For the first session please bring a 2B pencil and sketch pad.
Watercolour and acrylic paints and paper will be discussed during the first session. It is not necessary to have paint and paper for all media as students can focus on their preferred medium.
Are there any additional costs?
The tutor will recommend artist quality pencils which range in price from Derwent 2B pencil £1.55 to Caran D’Ache £2.75; A4 sketch pad, 50 sheets, 135gsm weight from £3.99 upwards. Approximate costs of watercolour paint from £13.80 Winsor and Newton pocket box of 12 colours, A4 watercolour paper £10.30. Set of Acrylic paints £12.99, A4 acrylic paper £9.50.
