What is the course about?

This is a Learning for Personal Interest course that will enable you to understand and participate in discussions concerning familiar and unfamiliar topics and present clear, detailed arguments and opinions on a wide variety of issues of interest to you.

Speaking, listening, reading and writing skills will be developed through the study of a range of topics presented in a variety of written and audio-visual formats (newspaper or magazine articles, documentary programmes, literature and film). Themes covered could include: travel, lifestyle issues, sport and leisure pursuits, music, art and culture, the world of work, current affairs and global issues, as well as other topics related to your personal interests. Through these modules, you will also gain an insight into the culture and customs of some of the countries where the language is spoken.

What previous experience, knowledge or qualifications do I need for this course?

This is the follow-on of a pre-established class that welcomes new learners. You will have already studied the language for at least 4 years and may have a GCSE qualification, or have completed an Intermediate course with us (CEFR:A2). If you are unsure of your level, please contact us and ask to speak to the tutor for further assistance. Diagnostic self-assessment sheets are available on-line and from our centre.

What do I need to bring with me?

Pen and paper.

Are there any additional costs?

There are no additional costs for this course. At the first session your tutor will discuss with you the purchase of a suitable dictionary and textbook.
