What is the course about?

This course will enable you to build on your creative awareness and enjoyment of photography, through creative photographic projects and exploration of camera techniques and functions. You will be supported to engage in experimentation with photography techniques, take pictures in and out of doors using a variety of methods, undertake image analysis and study the work of other photographers. The course will also incorporate learners carrying out their own creative project work. All lessons will have learning aims which the tutor will share with you and they will track how you are progressing throughout the course and keep you informed. The course focuses on a different theme or set of themes each term and that are often inspired by the work of other photographers or photography movements, historical and current. Learners get the chance to develop their technical and creative skills to a higher level through creative projects set and through evaluation and feedback from peers.

What previous experience, knowledge or qualifications do I need for this course?

These courses are designed to follow on from ‘Creative Photography’ set of courses. They are also suitable for any DSLR (or similar bridge/mirrorless*) camera owner who is confident working with aperture and shutter priority settings and would like to: • Continue to build on confidence levels photographing in a variety of situations • Practice camera skills with interior and exterior shots • Increase technical knowledge of camera functions • Work with others to explore new ways of working creatively with their camera * Bridge/mirrorless cameras that give ‘manual’ control to the user e.g. aperture, shutter speed, ISO etc are considered suitable for this course.

What do I need to bring with me?

You will need to bring a DLSR/bridge camera and instruction manual along with a pen and notepad (and for those who completed previous ‘Creative Photography’ courses, your A3 workbook).

Are there any additional costs?

The purchase of a suitable A3 workbook will be required and participants will be expected to produce their own photographs for class assessment, sometimes mounted on card. A USB stick may also come in useful at some point in the course for sharing of images in class and there may be the occasional small expenditure on ‘props’ for projects. There is the potential of travel to local destination for outdoor photoshoot or gallery visit, which may also require parking or entrance fee. A tripod is also recommended for this course.
